August 2019 Sprint Report

29/8/2019

North Cumbria & the Borders Region Report August 2019

Wedding bells have been ringing out in Cumbria, one local couple displayed their excellent taste in cars by borrowing the Griff for a few photos - making a nice change from the usual horse drawn carriage. Best wishes to Steven and Kerryann, it was great to be part of your big day. Looks like you’ve started a trend as we’ve already had another TVR Wedding Car request through the region website!

Dark clouds and risk of thunderstorms didn’t put us off the High Tea Run at the end of June - we had a great turnout with eight TVRs (plus a motley assortment of Mercedes) led off by James and Linda from the Craggs Cafe at Bothel.

Their route took us through the wonderful countryside north of Keswick around the ‘back of Skiddaw’ before heading to the coast, stopping for a picnic lunch at Silloth, where the conditions could be described as ‘bracing’...

The afternoon saw us going back inland through some lovely villages, past Bassenthwaite to pick up Whinlatter Pass and finish up at the Hunday Manor Hotel for an enormous High Tea.
Huge thanks to all who joined the run and congratulations to James and Linda for their  ‘Morecambe and Wise’ directions: all cars arrived at the right place, but not necessarily in the right order!

We’ll have a report next time from the Rotating Wheels event at Gosforth in the Western Lakes - it's a small show organised by our local Rotary Club but it attracts some unusual vehicles that are normally kept stashed away by local farmers and other interesting characters who never stray far from home!

July 2019 Sprint Report

29/8/2019

North Cumbria & the Borders Region Report July 2019

Lots to report this month - Bronwen and I were the sole TVR on the Sporting Bears event over at Ravenstonedale (near Kirby Stephen). This is one of our favourites; a two day (non-competitive) road rally to raise money for charity. The beneficiary this year was Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Middlesbrough and the weekend raised over two thousand pounds for this very deserving cause.

We had a fantastic time, the road book took us through some breathtaking Yorkshire countryside, following roads that are still beautifully smooth and free of potholes - apparently  thanks to the work done ahead of the ‘Tour de Yorkshire’ cycle event! We circled back across to Lancashire, ending up at the Midland Hotel in Morecambe which has been expensively refurbished but retains its art deco style. As usual, the event attracted a variety of cars (and crews!) with Jaguar, Porsche, Austin Healey, Jaguar, MG, Triumph and Aston Martin all represented.

A couple of weekends later I was delighted with the turnout at the ESPCC Cumbria International Motor Show at Crooklands near Kendal. We had twenty TVRs on our stand with another three or four on the showground as individual entries. It was a multi-region turnout as we were  joined by friends new and old from the North East and Blackpool. Our esteemed Chairman was one of the unexpected stars of the show - invited to the main ring to show off his M, he got to treat the crowd to that lovely V8 sound!

The ESPCC show goes from strength to strength with over seven hundred entries, live music, traders and various manufacturers/dealers attending too. We’re gearing up for the next ‘big’ event which will be the Dumfries Motor Show in August - get in touch if you want to join the fun.

Club night this month was at Hundith Hill near Lorton, another good night, lovely food and good craic too. Please visit the region website at www.tvrcc-northcumbria.co.uk for all our news and events and take a look at our photo gallery.

June 2019 Sprint Report

29/8/2019

North Cumbria & the Borders Region Report June 2019

Well, the year is going well - we were joined on the Rooster Run by new (to me) members Dave and Denise in their recently purchased S3 and Steve in his Tuscan. Our motley crew met up at the Rooster Bar and Grill, Penrith for a hearty breakfast before Carolyn and her driver Gordon led us off down the old A6 on a scenic route ending up at the Lakes Motor Museum near Backbarrow.

After a good look around (including a quick inspection of the Lotus Owners Club turnout - as you see, they are almost as photogenic as TVRs) I made my way back to home to West Cumbria via Birker and Ulpha fells while the rest of the group enjoyed another scenic run back via the Lakes to Threlkeld.

We fielded nine TVRs and just about managed to stay in convoy! Huge thanks to Gordon and Carolyn for leading the run - great fun was had by all.

We now have a full stand (twenty cars) for this year’s Elite Sports and Performance Car Show at the Westmorland County Showground near Kendal. Full report and photos next month.

Club night this month was at Hundith Hill near Lorton, we were a small but noisy group so it was a good night, great company and a nice meal too. We’ve booked the Hundith Hill for our Christmas party (never too soon!) and we’ll have a private dining room just off the main function room this year - giving us the best of both worlds.Contact me if you’d like to join the fun on 7th December.
