North Cumbria & the Borders Region Report June 2018
We had 2 former ROs at the club night in April - Adrian and Les came along to help keep order and it was great to see them both. Our club nights through the summer months usually involve an hours run out, so our whereabouts will vary during this time. Please check the event calendar on the main club website before travelling. I need volunteers to lead the runs in August and September. The benefit is that you get to choose the start and end points as well as getting to take us out on your favourite roads! Give me a shout if you fancy a go.
The Mad Hatters run in April was a great success, many thanks to Gordon and Carolyn for organising a great route. We set off from Penrith for a run down through Tebay and out to Dent. We then headed down past the Ribblehead viaduct and across to Giggleswick where much artisan cheese was purchased at our tea stop - The Courtyard Dairy near Settle.
As you can see, we had TVRs classic and modern with owners old and young (at heart). All the cars behaved perfectly, as did their drivers. Despite several reminders some neglected to bring appropriate headwear but fortunately I brought some spares! It was a lovely start to the year and really got us in the mood for our forthcoming Scottish adventures.
Bronwen and I are also taking part in a weekend organised by the Sporting Bears Motor Club soon - its a (non-competitive) road rally taking in the Yorkshire Dales and Eastern side of the Lake District, all in aid of the Rainbow Trust. We usually see at least one or two TVRs on this event along with a great selection of classic and performance cars from lesser marques like Porsche, Ferrari and Lotus…
Finally - the region website (tvrcc-northcumbria.co.uk) is starting to fill out nicely with photos and event reports. If you’d like people to be able to see your pride and joy on the site feel free to send me any news and/or pictures and I’ll get them up.
All the best

North Cumbria & the Borders Region Report May 2018
We enjoyed a great club night in March - the big turn out made up for cancelling February’s meeting. It was nice to see some familiar faces, especially former Griff owner Andy Matthews who runs Rainbow Camper Hire at Keswick. Swapping a TVR for a VW camper requires a certain ‘strength of character’ but even though Andy’s seven vans take a fair bit of maintenance, he says another TVR is a case of ‘when’ not ‘if’. You can take a look at Andy’s fleet by visiting www.vwcamperhire.net and he’ll be joining the region on our stand at the Cumbria International Motor Show in Kendal on the 20th of May
Following a winter of tidying, maintenance and polishing I took the Griff to Club night for the first time this year. Seascale to the Hundith Hill Hotel takes in some nice roads, especially if you can follow the more leisurely route! It was a lovely sunny evening but no-one told Cumbria County Council who decided to use the last of this year’s gritting budget by sneaking out under cover of darkness to cover every inch of my route back home.
TVR Club night conversations never fail to amaze and entertain; Where else can you go and hear the latest triumphs and disasters experienced by owners of our favourite marque but also get advice on poultry, knitting, male grooming and archery? Come and join the fun - the last Wednesday of the month is our regular night and we’d be delighted to welcome new members, returning members or anyone who enjoys good company and great cars.
Finally - I thoroughly enjoyed the AGM at Gaydon and the Classic Car Restoration Show at the NEC the next day. The club is clearly going from strength to strength due to the efforts of the members and the committee, but thanks also to Alison and the team at the TVRCC office who have been very patient with me as I get to grips with the RO role.

Gordon and Carolyn are in charge for our first proper run of the year which will start from the Rooster cafe & filling station Penrith - next door to Cranstons, website here
This will give those that are coming from afar chance to have a cuppa and use the facilities!
We will depart at 11.00am sharp so make sure you have fuel for around 120 miles.
First stop will be the very pretty cobbled streets of Dent at around 12.15pm where you can can explore the various tea rooms, pubs, shops (wool wear) and heritage centre.(approx 1 1/2 -2hrs)
Stop 2 will be the Courtyard Dairy on the A65 just out side Giggleswick at around 3.15pm. We will probably stop for approx 1hr this should be enough time to visit the shop, the museum, the cafe, the toilet or just kick tyres.
Stop 3 and the end of the run will be Tebay north bound at around 5.00pm Coffee & toilets
The tour will pass through stunning rolling hills, bubbling rivers, towering viaducts and possibly one or two lambs.
North Cumbria & the Borders Region Report April 2018
It's been a quiet month - the Beast from the East gave us some lovely scenery but unfortunately we had to cancel our February Club night due to the road conditions. Howling blizzards and minus 6 degrees outdoors gave me a chance to sort out some more photos from last month’s Go-Karting event and get them onto the region website (just type ‘tvrcc n cumbria’ into your favourite search engine).
The snow (and the gritters) are still keeping most of us off the road for now but better weather will soon be here and we’re looking forward to getting some miles in. The event calendar is now on the North Cumbria region forum on the main website but email me for a copy if you need one. As always, details of our events will be going onto the main club Events Calendar a few weeks in advance.
In the meantime I’m heading off to the Classic Car Restoration Show and there are still one or two little jobs to finish off on the Griffith as winter hibernation comes to an end - roll on Spring!
